Can anyone recommend a decent (and preferably sensibly priced) curry house in town, or sensible (post pub strolling distance) from?

Car boot sale question
I've found some mentions on the web of a car boot sale held every Sunday at Katesgrove School on Pell St. Does anyone know if this is still going? I could do with taking some stuff to it tomorrow if it is :)

Does anyone know of any authentic Mexican restaurants in Reading or Berkshire area???
Someone suggested Chilli's but I'm a little reluctant to try them. It doesn't look very authentic and looks like an every day family restaurant.
Thanks for any suggestions and/or feedback! Current Mood: curious

Last night we went to the Royal Tandoori in Reading for a meal. My advise is to avoid. The waitress was crap, she kept asking us when we wanted the food. WTF? I just always assumed you had your food when it was ready. Anyway we ended up waiting quite a long time, for the food and then the bill and then to authorise my debit card, etc. The place was slightly grotty, my knife had fingerprints on it, the table cloth was dirty, the waitress swept some of our left over rice onto the floor for no good reason. It was also quite expensive, just under £30 for two meals and a couple of non-alcoholic drinks. There seemed to be about 10 tables and five waiting staff but you seemed to get fussed over when nothing much was happening then you had to wait ages when you wanted something. The waitress suggested we should shout across the restaurant if we wanted anything.
The food was very average, if not slightly below. The only plus was the waitress had reasonable tits. Still we won't be going back. If I were you I would avoid too.
A couple of minutes walk up the road is Everest 53. The service and food is fantastic. Go there instead! Current Mood: contemplative

Any good fish and chip shops in Reading? I want freshly fried fish, not the skanky stuff that sits in those silly warmer things for days on end. Current Mood: hungry

Pub meet up anyone?
Its January, its cold and wet and grey and no one is very happy about having to be back at work so I am proposing a pub meet up to cheer us all up.
Not next week but the week after would be particularly good for me, how about everyone else?
I assume weekend evenings are better for most people but it will be busier especially if we meet up in central Reading (which would probably be better for the majority of people), I don't work Monday to Friday so week nights are ok by me.
What do people think?
Would you lke to come out for a Reading LJ meet up?
How is the week of the 14th-20st January for you
I could do that week
That week is a bit awkward for me
I cannot make it
Assuming you can make that week, which day would be better for you?
None of the above
Suggest a pub or other meeting place...

Alternative Club Nights Calendar
I have started collating a public Google calendar of regular alternative club nights in the UK. It can be found here:
It is currently less than comprehensive so if there is any night you know about and would like me to add then please let me know the following details (either here or by email to sepheri at gmail dot com):
Name of club
Night it is on
Regularity (1st Friday of the month etc)
Price of admission
A little blurb about what kind of music it plays and who the djs are would be nice too.
Also, if I have added your club to the calendar and you would rather it wasn't there or I have entered some information wrongly or whatever please give me a shout and I will rectify it for you.
So far I have added (mostly taken from a list posted in infest_uk
Black Veil - Leeds (monthly 1st Saturday)
Prophecy - Wirral and York (York until March only)
Corporation - Sheffield (weekly on Saturdays)
Caged Asylum - Manchester (weekly on Saturdays)
Transmission - Leeds (monthly, second Saturday)
Frankie Goes to Subculture (Until March)
Wendy House - Leeds (3rd Saturday of the month)
I know Black Sheep
is on a Sunday but it doesn't seem to have its 2008 dates up yet and what time does it close?
Does anyone have opening times for Club Lash
So its all a bit middle-north England atm, it would be great if people from every where else could send me some details.
I hope it is useful to people, please let me know what you think.

Hi everyone -- Well, I would like to do my postgraduate degree in Reading, and I'm trying to get an idea of what it's like to live there (mind you, I've never even been there). Mainly what I would like to know is:
1) Is there nice, pretty countryside around that I could drive out to fairly easily?
2) How bad IS crime there? Will I have to always be uncomfortable because of young aimless angry people standing on the corner looking for someone to stab?
3) Someone was saying people in Reading generally seem downcast and glum. I noticed this when I was in Nottingham -- would you say this is true of Reading?
4) How is the wage-to-cost of living ratio?
5) I know to stay away from Whitley -- what other parts of town are safe but not too pricey?
Ultimately, I will probably just move there anyway because I want to study with a particular professor, but I figure I should find out what I'm getting into beforehand :) Current Mood: recumbent
